Why are they attending your training? &lt;br&gt;&lt;li&gt;Sometimes go back to basics - it's a good chance to reevaluate your performance &lt;br&gt;&lt;li&gt;Find ways to generate interaction and get your participants doing something &lt;br&gt;&lt;li&gt;Provide as much variety as practicable &lt;br&gt;&lt;li&gt;Demonstrate where possible - it will save many words &lt;br&gt;&lt;li&gt;Use humour wherever possible. If associated with analogies, this can help participants recall specifics &lt;br&gt;&lt;li&gt;Consider your training as a marketing exercise &lt;br&gt;&lt;/ol&gt;&lt;br&gt;When you prepare your session (you DO prepare don't you?) think of it in terms of you having to make a sale. I know this sounds odd, but when you think about it, you are trying to 'sell' someone the ideas you are putting across. So there's much we can learn from the art of salesmanship or marketing.&lt;p&gt;Think along the lines of the acronym A - I - D - A which stands for Attention - Interest - Desire - Action. Get attention by making a statement that &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/behavior-leadership-style.html&gt;Behavior Leadership Style&lt;/a&gt; bold or give an example of what could happen if they don't do what it is you are about to suggest. For example, if you were about to deliver a road safety talk, you could start off by saying something like, '560 people died on Queensland Roads last year ... what's going to keep you from adding to that statistic?' You may then give them some 'Interesting' statistics about how many of those people were drivers who committed &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/good-leadership-styles.html&gt;Good Leadership Styles&lt;/a&gt; offences. Desire is aroused when we want something - in this case, the solution to NOT becoming a statistic. Then, the Action part might relate to a commitment from them to put into effect what you have taught them.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The best scenario I have found is to present a problem or predicament, state how the problem can be solved or the predicament can be avoided, present a preferred option and then ask for the action (buying, adopting etc depending on circumstances).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When planning your session, think about how you can weave AIDA into: Explain, Demonstrate, Question, Practise, Review. It won't be appropriate to every session, but if it can be used, it's a sound option. And remember, if you have a large volume of content, you may need to break it (it's called chunking) into separate chunks each of which has an E-D-Q-P-R.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Questioning is two-way. You need to question your participants to find out if they understand what you have delivered; they need an opportunity to clear up any doubts they have by questioning you. Your review can be a summary (which also includes Q) or it can be a review at the commencement of a later presentation about a continuing topic.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When next you are about to prepare a 'chalk and talk' session or perhaps a 'show and tell', think about how you could make it a little more interesting and interactive by using AIDA and EDQPR strategies. You'll be pleasantly surprised at what good ideas you come up with. Our chapter had been in existence officially for 16 months and unofficially for 24. In January, we only had 11 members and half of those were on the board. Our programs had very low attendance. We had no energy and it showed. In the previous year, we had had only a handful of board meetings. As Vice-President at that time [and certainly not in line for the Presidency, I was not certain where the organization was headed. I focused the group with the &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/christian-journal-leader.html&gt;Christian Journal Leader&lt;/a&gt; steps:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;1. Create structure.&lt;/b&gt; Everyone &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/current-minority-leader-of-the-senate.html&gt;Current Minority Leader Of The Senate&lt;/a&gt; better when they know not only what to expect, but what is expected from them. I spent several days detailing plans to take us where we needed to be. The old adage "How do you eat an elephant?" certainly fit us well. We did have governing documents, by-laws and policies and procedures, but they were in need of revising. They couldn't be revised until they were reviewed by the current board. The current board did not know we had these documents. I asked the Board to accept the responsibility of updating their portion of the manual to fit what they were actually doing. We began emailing board reports to each other prior to the meeting; at the board meeting, a quick review of the reports was all that was needed. This allowed us to spend more time on new business, on the future that was in our hands.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;2. Relate your vision.&lt;/b&gt; The board as a team will make this a reality ... everyone needs to know not only how high that &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/leadership-skill-transformational.html&gt;Leadership Skill Transformational&lt;/a&gt; is, but what is waiting for them at the top. It was not appropriate to share my ultimate vision at the beginning; it was much greater than anything that had been suggested before. It was at our summer event that I shared my vision of the organization with the board. At that time they could envision it, could see it and grasp the "greatness" of it.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;3. Empower the board.&lt;/b&gt; They hold the board position they do for a reason; give them leeway to do what they believe will work best for their committee and for the chapter. Most of our board meetings were spent brainstorming what we, as a chapter, could offer and getting that word out to our prospects. Membership took the initiative to put all our members and prospects into a web-based email system. Emails would come from the chapter address and not someone's personal email address. They also continued talking with prospects, finding out what they wanted and getting them to join. PR kept us in the local newspapers and publications, assuring we had a place in the meeting announcements. Our secretary/treasurer kept track of all the invigorating ideas tossed around the table, made sure we were aware of the action items we agreed to complete, and guaranteed that we had the money to accomplish our goals. We empowered our webmaster to change the website as she saw fit, in the best interests of our chapter, and to let the other board members know what she did. Programs were critical to our success, and we kept them strictly industry-related. Any request I received from a speaker wanting to get in front of us was asked "What does your program have to do with our industry?" We mixed tours with industry speakers in a more traditional meeting style. We attended industry events in the area, proudly wearing our Chapter polo shirts, for now we did have a chapter to be proud of&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;4. Be a 'servant leader'&lt;/b&gt;... ask how you can help them, give them ideas, praise them, encourage them, know when they may be in over their heads, ask what you can do and follow through. They may feel unsure of what they are doing, and to give them the support and confidence they need, will work wonders. I worked with each board member to build our foundation one step at a time, one layer at a time. In the excitement that had been unleashed I cautioned members to stay focused, it was very easy for us to go off in many different directions, thus accomplishing nothing.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;b&gt;5. Remember: the board is a team&lt;/b&gt;. Expect disagreements, but honor and respect each other. Together you can make miracles happen! As a team, we excelled!&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;At our happy hour event at the end of July, we signed our 34th member! The treasurer and I each bought a bottle of champagne and member after member toasted this fabulous chapter. Another study found that 72% of companies predict that they'll have an increasing number of leadership vacancies over the next three to five years. At the same time, 76% are "less than confident" in their abilities to adequately staff these positions (Corporate Leadership Council).&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Is leadership important? You better believe it. Is leadership development important? Your company's success depends upon it.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Over the past five years, the methodology to develop leaders has changed significantly. There has been a steady &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/between-differentiate-leadership-management.html&gt;Between Differentiate Leadership Management&lt;/a&gt; toward "one-on-one" training as evident in the increasing use of performance coaching and e-learning. Both of these developmental approaches take people out of the classroom and provide leaders with a personal development experience.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Coaching allows each person to address his or her specific challenges and opportunities. E-learning derives its power from its convenience and training-on-demand flexibility.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If it hasn't happened yet, training may soon be coming to a computer near you. However, before we examine e-learning, let's focus on what makes traditional classroom training effective. We will then apply those insights utilizing e-learning to make a difference.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Here's what we know about training:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Trainees need to see a reason to develop new skills, therefore, position training from the "What's in it for me?" perspective.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When the trainee's manager is involved in the process, individuals are more likely to transfer learning from the classroom to the workplace.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Learning is a process, not an event. Training needs to be reinforced if application is to take place.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The concepts need to relevant and immediately applicable.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The training needs to be &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/difference-leadership-management.html&gt;Difference Leadership Management&lt;/a&gt; and utilize a variety of methods to convey insights and practice/experience new skills&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;We also know that training must be convenient. Leadership development has gradually shifted from week-long retreats, to one or two-day seminars, and now to e-learning. I do not believe that leadership development should or will ever completely shift to e-learning, but a powerful leadership development process can blend classroom learning with e-learning modules.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;E-learning can supplement traditional training by reinforcing the skills taught in the classroom. Alternatively, e-learning can be used to expose leaders to concepts that they have not yet seen in a classroom. In this case, leaders can meet with other leaders &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/minority-leader-senate.html&gt;Minority Leader Senate&lt;/a&gt; have taken the course and discuss insights and strategies for implementing new skills.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;In terms of delivery, truly effective e-learning experiences should not simply include PowerPoint slides placed on a server. E-learning should be engaging and dynamic. Courses should include modeling videos that:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Bring real-world application into the learning process&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Show participants the right and wrong way to exhibit the skill&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Provide recommended strategies, techniques, and clearly defined skill points&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Effective classroom training encourages participation. This holds true for online learning as well. E-learning courses should allow the trainee to interact with the course in a variety of ways, including:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Simulated practice of real-world practice situations&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Opportunities to reflect on thoughts and applications&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Quizzes with comparison to structured answers&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Pre and post-tests to measure learning&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Beyond the content and design of the e-learning course, organizations must create a learning environment in which leaders buy-into the process and work hard transferring learning from the training interaction to the job. Companies must encourage employees to take courses for personal and professional development. They may even wish to discuss online experiences in team meetings and even use the company newsletter to highlight online experiences and real-world application.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;If e-learning is going to be effective, organizations must consider the same items that make classroom training effective. Therefore:&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The trainee's manager should meet with the trainee after taking the course and discuss learning and future application.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The e-learning course is one component of a larger self-reinforcing process.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Individuals must see immediate relevance and application of the skills taught in the course&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Trainees must be motivated to develop the skills and rewarded when they do.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The training needs to be engaging and interactive, not simply watching a passive online presentation.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Leaders drive the success of your organization. By providing them with the opportunity to learn - and supporting their learning endeavors, you will set your organization on a path for success. There are thousands of such books out there to choose from. Experts have been writing books about leadership for centuries. One of the first was written as early as 400 BC by Xenophon , a Greek military historian.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;I am sure that every book written since then has claimed to be unique but in fact they are really all delivering the same message. That is because good leadership consists of a basic set of principles, which are common to all delivery models; listen empathetically, develop relationships based on trust, provide clear consistent communication, acknowledge performance.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Unfortunately we can't become great leaders by reading great books. Leadership, like any other skill, is about learning by doing. Research has shown that we &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/house-of-representatives-republican.html&gt;House Of Representatives Republican&lt;/a&gt; 20% of what we see, hear or read, 70% of what we see, hear and discuss and 90% of what we see, hear, discuss and practice.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Just as you could not perfect your tennis serve or your golf swing without practicing those skills, you cannot become a good leader without practicing leadership at every opportunity. (A new skill cannot be used competently or fluidly until it is practiced to the point of mastery.)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Practice is most effective in an environment of trust that provides emotional support and objective feedback. An executive meeting is not the place to begin! An effective plan would be to start with an experiential workshop where active learning is supported in an objective and constructive manner.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Beyond the workshop support and feedback and opportunity can be found in many groups and environments. To receive that anointing - to receive that holy power - to receive the Holy Spirit as Jesus received when He came up out of the Jordan River is a most precious experience. If only the leaders of the nations would seek this anointing - what a different world this could be.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When we ask and seek and knock - and go on doing so - go on asking - go on seeking - go on knocking - that is the meaning of these &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/leadership-development-plan-sample.html&gt;Leadership Development Plan Sample&lt;/a&gt; - the Father is willing that we have exactly the same equipping as Jesus had. That is what Jesus is teaching us here, as He sets out for Jerusalem.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When we look at or consider - gifts - miracles - healing - prophecy and prophesying - speaking in tongues and interpretation - it is a consequence of this. This was all first experienced at Pentecost and we have previously studied the details of that occasion recorded in Acts Chapter 2 by the same medical doctor who has written this authentic Gospel.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;As we move on into verse 14, it is very interesting that we read of spiritual warfare. Right away - in the next verse - we read of conflict.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;When the Father gives the Holy Spirit, we can become more aware of spiritual conflict, and involved in spiritual conflict. This was the experience of Jesus. This was the experience of each of His disciples.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Jesus is casting out a demon - a bad spirit - that had made a man dumb. Not only was this man unable to carry on a conversation, but he would not be &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/leadership-qualities.html&gt;Leadership Qualities&lt;/a&gt; to express gratitude and praise in worship, nor would he be able to pray out loud.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;These matters are important - the way we pray - the way we sing - remember we are appearing in the presence of the King - Jesus Christ.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;The way we sing and praise reveals a lot - about our love for Jesus - about our commitment to Jesus Christ.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Jesus Christ casts out this evil spirit. The man is set free. He is able to speak.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;And then, some people accuse Jesus of committing the unforgivable sin. These critics said Jesus was casting out evil spirits by using the power of the devil. They were saying that Jesus got His power from &lt;a href=http://true-leadership.info/gender-and-leadership.html&gt;Gender And Leadership&lt;/a&gt; - the king of demons - lord of the flies - insects.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Some of these people were so frantic to discredit Christ and His Word and His Ministry that they were saying that Jesus was in league with the devil. (Matthew 12 and verse 24 tells us it was the Pharisees who said this.)&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;This time - these people just went too far. At times to criticise can be very very dangerous, especially if the negative comments are levelled at what God is doing.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;Be careful as to the words which flow from your mouth. They reveal what is in our hearts and one day we will be answerable for every careless word we have spoken. There will be no use saying - O I did not mean to say that - I did not intend to be so negative and critical.
